In 2024, ÖKO-TEST tested a total of 18 pre-formula products, including eight certified organic pre-formula products, and our organic pre-formula starter milk based on skimmed milk was also tested. The following parameters were examined in this year's test:

• Contaminants: Mineral oils, chlorate/perchlorate, fat contaminants (glycidyl fatty acid esters), bisphenol A
• Microbial contamination
• Ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids DHA and ARA in a 1:1 ratio
• Labeling

 In the current test, our Bio Pre starter milk was rated “satisfactory” by ÖKO-TEST. The lower rating was due to MOSH residues that ÖKO-TEST classified as “elevated.” We achieved good to very good results in all other test areas.

This year too, none of the detected contaminants exceed the maximum levels currently applicable in the EU. All levels fall within the range considered toxicologically safe.

As was already the case after the 2021 test, there are still no maximum limits for MOSH residues set by the EU or German authorities that must not be exceeded. There are also no legally binding standards for raw material suppliers that they must comply with, which could prevent mineral oil contamination from the very beginning of the production chain.

However, the discussion about the mineral oil component MOSH has now taken a clear direction. In its latest scientific assessments, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has confirmed no acute health hazard from dietary exposure to MOSH and concluded that there is no cause for concern for any age group. MOAH is considered the most critical mineral oil component by experts and regulators. This mineral oil component has always been below the limit of quantification in our products.
Nevertheless, one thing is clear to us too: MOSH is undesirable in our organic baby food, and we do everything we can to reduce residues as much as possible.

WHO note: Breastfeeding is the best nutrition for your baby. The composition of breast milk always offers your baby the ideal combination of nutrients and good protection against allergies and diseases. The WHO therefore recommends exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months and continuing to breastfeed after that in combination with age-appropriate and balanced complementary foods. Consult healthcare professionals (e.g., pediatrician, mother/father counseling service, midwife, lactation consultant) if your child needs supplementary food or if you cannot breastfeed (sufficiently). The use of infant formula may affect breastfeeding success.

We have established a monitoring program for mineral oil residues, among other things, which enables us to closely monitor the results. In close cooperation with our manufacturer, we are committed to further optimizing the processes and minimizing potential sources of MOSH contamination.
